every day gets to be a long time ago
Arts Club of Washington, DC (Juror, Neal Benezra), 1998
In a historic Federal-style home in Washington, existing antique rugs, fireplace, beveled-edge mirrors and harpsichord were incorporated into a nostalgic installation. A dark side room at the top of the stairs was adorned with small photographs, each collaged with a word from the title of the show, framed, and delicately hung on a chain from picture molding. Blown glass paperweights were placed on each end of the fireplace. In the center of the room, a rectangular, low, upholstered form, skirted with a mannish tweed fabric, referenced a coffin's draping. A taped recording of a harpsichordist playing "Barbara Allen" lured visitors to the front room. An open-framed box-like room within the room, was adorned with a chiffon curtain that billowed rhythmically as an antique floor fan rotated. Two reflective balls framed the fireplace and , on the mantle, calling cards engraved with the show's title, were offered.
