Smokestack as place-maker · May 28, 08:48 PM

STILL STANDING
Some locals view the old Penelec smokestack as a fragment of the past that has no business in Erie’s future. But as a key element of the former Front Street Station (parts of which are now the Maritime Museum and library complex) the 120 foot masonry tower is visible from Presque Isle and should be a keeper. The Water Authority Buildings, the Russian Orthodox domes, Dobbins Landing, and the new Convention Center would all benefit if the stack was cleaned up and projected light into the night sky.
